Direct Support Professional

how long have you worked at area residential care?

I’ve worked at Area Residential Care for just over a year. I am an instructor and ensure the safety of all residents, take them on outings, do special activities with them like baking, keep them on task with their special duties, pass medications and help them with their personal needs.

WHAT DO YOU FIND REWARDING ABOUT YOUR WORK?

I have learned a lot from working at Area Residential Care. I have the opportunity to help others on a daily basis and have grown a special bond with the residents. It is like having an extended family. This alone can make the hard work and dedication well worth it!

WHAT WOULD YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY AREA RESIDENTIAL CARE?

Area Residential Care provides equal employment opportunities. It doesn’t matter your race. You are treated as family and with respect. Area Residential Care provides a safe environment for their residents and staff. They also provide me, as an employee, an opportunity to work with residents who have all different types of disabilities. A chance to care for them as my very own family.

"I enjoy working with clients to find that perfect job match for themselves and a business. I had a very proud moment earlier this summer when I took two clients to a job fair and when talking to the business realized how well we had prepared them for the positions the business was looking to fill. Both ladies were hired and both are doing great! The business is very happy and has reached out to us to see if we had more clients interested in joining their team."

Employment Specialist

"I love working with the individuals we serve. Just the simplest things we do for them make them so happy, like changing a light bulb in their room or rearranging some furniture. Their face just lights up and they are so grateful. Lots of thanks and sometimes a hug. I am grateful to have the opportunity to help them in any way I can to make their life better."

"Our Direct Support Professionals are an inspiration. They exemplify patience, kindness and empathy to our clients and assist them in reaching their highest potentials."

- Eric R.

Registered Nurse

"I started back in March of 2021 as residential supervisor. I kind of stumbled into the current position I hold at Area Residential Care as Education Specialist. It’s been a privilege to have both roles within Area Residential Care. I love the interaction with the individual(s) they make my day! I also feel privileged to be able to give tools to the new staff as well as current to empower them within the jobs they hold at Area Residential Care.

Area Residential Care has many opportunities to build a career! I’m thankful for the classes that Area Residential Care has paid for to allow me to grow. I took the CPR AHA instructor, CPI instructor, medication manager, and am currently taking the medication aide class. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be able to be here!"

- Ellen P.

"I like being a case manager at Area Residential Care because I love working with and advocating for our consumers. Area Residential Care ensures that our employees work together as a team to provide fun activities, community outings, support and much more to each individual.

This year I was able to take two consumers to a Cubs game in Chicago! Seeing the excitement in their faces was heartwarming, not to mention rewarding. Working at Area Residential Care is not only rewarding, these consumers have taught me life lessons I will always cherish."
