Residential Services Department
The goal of the Residential Services Department is to assist individuals with disabilities in becoming more independent. The department works with each consumer to develop individualized life plans that outline personal goals and needs. These life plans are developed annually with their person-centered team consisting of the individual served, parents/guardians, Individual Program Coordinators (IPC’s), case managers, and other agency staff as appropriate. Each team develops plans to ensure that the consumer’s goals and needs are being met.
The department currently has ten community living homes throughout the city of Dubuque that vary in size from five to eight beds. Services provided in these homes are Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) licensed Residential Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (RCF/MR). The department also has more independent options available through its two Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) homes. Single-level homes are available to meet accessibility needs.
When necessary, the agency will also assist in finding the appropriate community resources to provide medical or other professional services as necessary.
Each home is staffed by support professionals who have been trained and certified to distribute medications by the local community college. Staff members also provide training and assistance in food preparation, laundry, personal care, shopping, budgeting, safety, personal rights, and other daily living skills. All consumers are encouraged and assisted to actively participate in their homes, communities, church, and any other recreational activities of interest.
